Tips To Keep Your Feet Healthy On A Summer Vacation

Summer is here and you might already be planning your summer getaway. Your feet will be your trusty companions through the journey so give them a little extra care this summer. The team at Westchester Podiatric Healing Medicine, P.C., under Dr. John C. Marzano, has come up with a list of tips to help you plan and pack for your foot-friendly vacation.

VACATION FOOT CARE

  • Wear comfortable shoes: Whether you plan to wander in the streets of Rome, hike through the mountains of Montana or sit back at a villa in Provence, wear comfortable shoes according to the places you will be visiting. Wearing your handy sneakers or other enclosed shoes during transit or at the airport, when there is a lot of walking and luggage tugging involved, can provide you with protection against foot injuries, blisters and infections.
  • Pack your foot-care essentials with you: Pack a small luggage case with all the foot-care essentials like your nail clippers to manage broken nails, emery board, and anti-fungal cream to keep athlete’s foot at bay, moleskin and bandages to tend to any blisters and injuries that may happen during the trip.
  • Bring along a pair of water-proof shoes: It is always a good idea to pack along a pair of flip-flops or water-proof shoes, especially if you plan to visit a resort, beach or a public swimming pool/gym. Walking barefoot through community centers can make you vulnerable to any of the lingering fungal and bacterial infections that are contracted through direct contact.
  • Get your feet examined by a podiatrist: Seek medical attention if you notice any discoloration, swelling, rash, or unusual pain in your feet after a vacation.
